Ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes on this : the Peugeot 2008 DKR. It's the car the French manufacturer will be using next year to try and reclaim the Dakar title, a feat they haven't attempted since their four back-to-back wins between 1987 and 1990. Some blokes called Desprčs, Sainz and Peterhansel shall be driving it. I hear they're quite good.
This is all the pictures of the car we have at the moment, but it's enough to see that the 2008 DKR bears more than a passing ressemblance to the highly successful 205 T16 Grand Raid that won in 1987, 1988 and 1989. It also sports a temporary livery, it'll probably be painted like the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! eventually. No word on powertrain and layout either, but all that should be cleared when Peugeot officially reveals the car tomorrow.

Tire size and ride height hints at it being RWD. 4WD cars are required to have smaller tires and only 10 inches of travel. But then this is still just a render, not the actual vehicle, so who the fuck knows.

I do hope that another works team appears to challenge them.
Man, those Mitsubishi vs Peugeot, Dakar days sure were crazy.

They look like heavily photoshopped photographs more than renders, don't you think ?
![]() 04/14/2014 at 18:46 |

The car is actually just really tiny...
![]() 04/14/2014 at 18:48 |

They could be photoshopped photos of a model, like Archduke suggested, but I feel confident in saying it's not the actual car.

Mini's still in the game, and they won't roll over without a fight.

It looks too spot-on to not be official Peugeot pictures, anyway. There's no such thing as accidental leaks, after all.

I don't doubt it's really from Peugeot, in fact I'm sure it is. I just don't think it's the real, full-size vehicle.

Maybe not. We'll know for sure tomorrow !

Slap half a dozen hellas to the front and bring it on home.

The first Peugeot I would think about owning.

Isn't that just more of an X-Raid and Monster effort?
![]() 04/14/2014 at 20:40 |
|
In regards to X-Raid, sort of yes, in the same sense Subaru was Prodrive and Ford was M-Sport (prior to Ford officially leaving at the end of the 2012 season). Monster not so much, they actually only sponsor about half the Minis, the other half have no affiliation to Monster whatsoever, despite being part of the X-Raid Mini team. But overall they are considered an official factory team.

Is it just me, or does it look like a Vehicross?

But wait... Why doesn't Peugeot actually make cars that look like their concepts.... and sell them in America?
![]() 04/15/2014 at 03:28 |
|
It's not a concept car, it's a racecar. And they're not selling cars in America because it'd be too expensive to make them compatible with your silly regulations ^^.

I've updated the articles with HD pics, and Peugeot say it is indeed 2WD (probably RWD, then).

I know I know.... i'm just being a pain.

Definitely RWD. There's still something hinky about those photos. From some of those angles we should be able to see a hint of a control arm, especially sitting that high (looks like the suspension is close to fully extended, take a look at the Gordon , EVR , or SMG cars to see how a buggy normally sits when stationary). The suspension should also be visible in the wheel well, so they're hiding that.
On a different note I find the rear exhaust location very interesting. If it were front engine I'd expect the exhaust to come out the side. Could it be mid-rear mount? Hmmmmmm...

I suspect it shares a lot of stuff with the 208 T16 since Peugeot are trying to do this on a budget, so it might be mid-engined.

Hey, bud. Can I make a shoop request?
![]() 04/15/2014 at 18:05 |
|
Yeah.
![]() 04/15/2014 at 18:13 |

I'm intertested this rally clock shooped (first image), but with the newer clock face (second image, with lights around the edge). -3 on the countdown, which would be all the red lights and two of the yellow lights. Is this doable?
![]() 04/15/2014 at 18:37 |
|
So, something like this?
But the lights need all red but with two yellow lights at two before midnight?
I'm sorry if I'm not quite grasping the concept, I sorted about 500 springs today and my brain and body hurt.

Is this getting close?
![]() 04/15/2014 at 20:40 |

Looks good. Red lights start at the 35 second point and go to the 54 second point. Yellow from 55-57, and the rest of the lights grey/off. Also, can you set the hour hand to 2 PM

There we go. Can you put the hour hand to 2 PM, change the "21" to "3", and give the rest the standard color-flattening shoop treatment? If it's easier you can take the lettering out of the Tag Heuer logo and just make it green rectangle over red pentagon.

Perfect!
What do you have for completed rally car shoops?
![]() 04/15/2014 at 21:33 |
|
Just a few...
![]() 04/15/2014 at 22:00 |
|
You ok with me using a few of them for the new rally group blog logo?

Second version, haven't decided which font I prefer
![]() 04/15/2014 at 22:04 |

Yeah, go for it.
![]() 04/15/2014 at 22:04 |

And now, because I can't stop fiddling, a third version. Swapped the Evo with clock.

I actually tried that font first. A bit hard to read
